Book Review: In Darkness and Light

In Darkness and Light is a historical fiction by Tudor Alexander. This book is the second book from the author about living in Romania during and following WWII. Tina is a young Jewish girl who determines communism, rather than Zionism, is the answer that makes the most sense in an antisemitic world. When she is forced to the village of Transnistria and suffers with her Jewish friends and family, her communist convictions solidify. But when Romania becomes communist, Tina meets Iulian and begins to see that the ideals of communism aren't matching the actualities.

I love this book because it shows a young girl's progression along with Romania's progression. It is also a beautiful, but tragic, love story. And a story of resilience and grit and reinvention.
