​My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is MT Bass, author of the book Racing the Dream. M.T. Bass is a scribbler of fiction who holds fast to the notion that while victors may get to write history, novelists get to write/right reality. He lives, writes, flies, and makes music in Mudcat Falls, USA.

This week, I dove into a fascinating conversation with MT Bass about his latest novel Racing the Dream, and wow - did I learn some incredible things about the thrilling world of air racing! 

As a pilot and storyteller, Bass takes us on an incredible journey back to the early 1960s, exploring the resurrection of air racing through his character Hawk. What struck me most was how meticulously he researched every detail - spending months diving into historical records, watching vintage footage, and even connecting with original air racing pioneers.

Fun fact: The Reno Air Races, which play a central role in his book, actually stopped in 2023 and are set to restart in New Mexico in 2025. Bass was even fortunate enough to attend the final 2023 event, giving his novel an incredible layer of authenticity.

Bass shared some fantastic writing wisdom, including:

• Always be a "pantser" (writing by the seat of your pants) if that's what feels natural
• Over-research, but carefully select what details make it into your final draft
• Don't let research prevent you from actually writing!
