An Inspired Collaboration
"Carolina Tides" stemmed from a desire to give back to our community while celebrating the coastal richness of North and South Carolina. Jennifer E. Tirrell, one of our co-authors, shares how the idea blossomed from a conversation with the American Christian Fiction Writers in Charleston. Each of us decided to contribute by weaving our unique literary tapestry, set in captivating coastal locations, highlighting the essence of local culture, history, and personal experiences. Meet the Authors and Their Stories Each story in "Carolina Tides" offers a different flavor, ranging from historical explorations to romantic comedies, creative nonfiction, and beyond. Here’s a glimpse into what you can expect: Jan Comfort explores Oak Island, revealing the beauty of building deep connections to a place without residing there permanently. Lisa M. Pritchard Cariger brings "Brighter Days" to life, narrating a heartfelt tale of starting anew in Ocean Isle Beach with characters Lexi and Stohne. Lynda Stoy Stear provides a fascinating historical journey in "A Walk Back in Time on the Grand Strand," delving into the cultural and developmental aspects of Myrtle Beach. Carol Stigger dives into themes of empowerment and resilience with her story set in Brookgreen Gardens, featuring a protagonist who discovers strength and self-worth beyond emotional abuse. Jennifer E. Tirrell crafts a delightful romantic comedy, set at Ocean Isle Beach Museum, promising laughter and romance. Karen W Prescott tells a delightful story about pelicans, humans, and their interactions centered in Calabash, NC. And finally, I, Teri M. Brown, contribute a historical fiction inspired by a mysterious rock inscription that recounts a story of seeking familial connections on Sunset Beach. Supporting a Worthy Cause A unique aspect of "Carolina Tides" is our commitment to supporting women in need. All proceeds from the book are dedicated to organizations aiding women facing domestic violence—Hope Harbor in North Carolina and Ryzon Refuge in South Carolina. This adds a profound layer of purpose to our collaborative work. The Creative Process and Challenges Creating "Carolina Tides" within a year was an incredible journey for us. From initial drafts and feedback loops to meticulous edits, the process allowed us to grow as writers and unite as friends. Each step has been nurturing, and we’ve learned much from one another. How to Enjoy "Carolina Tides" Whether you’re a coastal resident or a visitor planning a beach read, "Carolina Tides" offers something special.
