Hello, Teri here from Online for Authors! A Novel that Defies Time

Originally published in 2016, "If Frogs Could Fly" presents a unique storyline—a global pandemic, an idea conceived years before the COVID-19 outbreak. The novel unfolds with our protagonist nearly attacked by a shark, and from this suspenseful opening, the narrative takes wild twists that keep readers on their toes. Mendel explains that while the pandemic element didn't initially figure into the story, once it clicked, it became a driving force in the narrative.

The Birth of a Unique Concept

What if a virus caused people to become more frog-like? That’s a glimpse into Mendel’s inventive mind. This 'Human Amphibian Virus' serves as a medium for not only biological transformation but also a reflection on human interactions and distancing—a prophetic parallel to recent real-world events. Recalling a presidency striving for resolution amidst chaos, Mendel had unknowingly painted a mirror image of our times.

Inspirations from the Past

Growing up in the 1960s, Mendel’s novel is peppered with cultural and historical nuances from that dynamic era. He brings forward the vibrancy of the sexual revolution and the influence of drugs, subtly weaving them into his narrative. These poignant details lend authenticity and stir nostalgia, adding depth to the frantic yet colorful world of "If Frogs Could Fly."

The Journey Through Research

Exploring settings far and wide, Mendel’s research serves as a testament to his dedication. While he hasn't visited South America, his familiarity with territories like the Catskills and Miami Beach adds an authentic layer to his storytelling. Experiencing these environments firsthand, Mendel crafts worlds that are both vivid and immersive.

The Evolution of a Title

Coming up with a fitting title was no small feat for Mendel, as he agonized over multiple possibilities before "If Frogs Could Fly" came to him rather serendipitously. Symbolic of impossible scenarios, it perfectly encapsulates the fantastical essence of the book. This quirky yet compelling title promises readers a journey filled with surprise and wonder.

What Lies Ahead

Alongside his literary pursuits, Mendel is shaping another exciting creation titled "The Miraculous Adventures of Willy Maze." Expected to release this summer, this upcoming book promises readers yet another absorbing adventure through the lens of an imaginative protagonist.
