I love going down rabbit holes! As I was writing my newsletter, I looked up "wet your appetite vs whet your appetite." I thought it was whet, but I wasn't positive. Turns out that there is a word for this kind of confusion! Eggcorn. Eggcorn = saying or spelling a word or phrase incorrectly because you hear it incorrectly. Here are some common ones:
Then, I learned something even cooler. There is a different word for song lyrics and poetry that is misunderstood: Mondegreen. You know, when you think you hear, "Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a douche" but they are really singing "revved up like a deuce." And this is why my kids call me Google Mom!
